BPBD: Beware of High Waves in West Java Sea

The Jakarta Regional Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) calls on residents to be aware of the potential for high waves of up to two meters in the waters of Java Sea which could hamper shipping activities.

Be aware of moderate category sea waves with a height of 1.25 to 2.5 meters

"Be aware of moderate category sea waves with a height of 1.25 to 2.5 meters likely to occur in the western part of Java Sea," expressed Jakarta BPBD Executing Unit Head, Isnawa Adji, Wednesday (7/12).

He explained the wind pattern in the waters of Belitung, Gelasa Strait, and Karimata was blowing from the southeast to the south with a speed of 4 to 20 knots.

"Meanwhile, winds in the waters north of Banten to West Java, Jakarta Bay, and western part of Java Sea generally blow from the east to the southeast with a speed of 4 to 20 knots," he explained.

He went on to say that the weather forecast for the port also contains information on daily wave forecasts containing forecasts for weather, wind, sea waves, temperature, air humidity, and tides.

Generally, the weather forecast is cloudy in the port area and Jakarta waters. Visibility at the port is a maximum of eight kilometers, air temperature is around 27 to 30 degrees Celsius and humidity is around 75 to 85 percent.

"Meanwhile, during high tide conditions on Tuesday (7/11) at 8 PM, the sea water level reached one meter and during low tide conditions on Wednesday (7/12), the sea water level reached 0.3 meters," he stated.
